Elon Musk buy Twitter for $44 Billion. Now he sees that there is not much profit for which he paid for. He is a business man. He wants to make money from Twitter because he have paid so much for this platform. Now he is cutting the running costs of Twitter as much he can.

At the time, Elon Musk took over., Twitter was just about 4 months to die. Because Twitter was not going on profit. So he really needs to take that steps to save the Twitter.
So what does he do to save the Twitter? Well, he have implemented many strategies to save Twitter and turn into profit.

He have laid off 6000 employees. The average salary of twitter employee is $160k, so he have laid off 6000 employees. You can do the maths.

He added subscription plan on verified accounts, also known as twitter blue. This costs $8 monthly and $84 yearly.

He have cut down the free access to twitter APIs, and charge a good money to use the APIs. Due to this, a lot of startups have failed and some founders have sold their startups that are using twitter APIs.

He have also laid off about 200 employees again on February 2023. Now currently at the moment, the total laid off were about 80% of twitter employees. That is a huge number. But they survived.

Now he have added Rate Limit on reading tweets. Here is a Rate limit plan that he have impulsed:

Verified accounts can read 6000 tweets a day.
Unverified accounts can read 600 tweets a day.
New unverified accounts can read 300 tweets a day.

Why he have added Rate limit on tweet reads?

Twitter signed a contract with Google in 2018 and expanded its GCP footprint in 2021. Twitter was reportedly due to pay Google some $300 million in 2023, as part of a multi-year deal worth around $1 billion, that was up for renewal at the end of June.

This is the reason why twitter have implemented Rate Limit.
There is a one more question, what caused twitter to be more costly these days, so they wants to implement a Rate limit?
Because as you know, twitter have ended its free API. But people want data from twitter. Now they are using their methods to get data from twitter. They are scraping twitter. Now these bots are constantly scraping the twitter which caused twitter some outages and increase in their cloud billing. But Elon Musk is smart enough to track the issue and he is doing the right thing to handle this.
